Busy times this week after the initial outing for the V8 on the track on the 25th of Jan. To be thorough, the engine was removed from the car and a full inspection made of the internals and gear drive system. It was pleasing to see everything working quite satisfactorily, with only a couple of adjustments needing to be made.
The output drive system was rebuilt with modified cushion spring rates and a couple of other minor changes, and re-installed. Other upgrades to the engine included the fabrication of a full mechanical throttle linkage system, as opposite to the rather vague cable system we started with.
Due to demands at work this week I ...

A very busy week for the team this week, as the engine was due to be back on the dyno on the Monday, then racing to get it in the car and installed for the first of the international series races at the Springs on Thursday night.
The main aim of the dyno testing was the finish the setting up of the low-end and mid range fuelling, and also test the durability of the new ‘Synergy Drive’, a spring based damping system for ...

After another gap of a couple of weeks and christmas gone for another year we are backing into Meeting 5 at Springs Speedway.
The weather shaped up well for the day, and the track looked great, a bit of rain during the week meant a very fast and grippy track during the week.
Another learning curve for the car tonight, we were happy with the performance last meeting on a dry slick track, but a tacky fast track is another ball game altogether.
We stuck with our base set-up in the first race, heat 3. Well, the car was a bit of a handful. Overall speed was OK, but the car seemed very ...

The weather was certainly not on our side on saturday, sporadic showers during the day caused some concern, but the evening looked to clear nicely... However things weren't to be and after all classes had done the warm-ups the heavens opened and caused a cease to racing. Luckily we had sunday to use for a raindate, so a good clean of the car and we were ready to go...
We ran in heats 3 and 5, the main aims for tonight were to get a handle of the set-up for the case, finish both heats and run in the feature .
The track ...

Soon enough we were into the third meeting of the new season. We'd worked hard the last couple of weeks and tonight was a big night, the debut of our new 88 car!.
The new 88 car is the original Aggressor Chassis, the first in what has become a line of championship winning cars. This car was the first built by Justin Insley a few years ago, and raced by his brother Shaun until a new evolution was built.
Over the winter we've put a lot of work into updating the chassis, and further developing some of the ideas Justin started work on. The car looks different, should work differently and is ...

As well as the hectic times developing the new V-8 engine, We’ve also raced the first two nights at Western Springs of the 06/07 season. With the high standard of racing now its important to get as many laps on the track as we can, lest we get left behind.
Luckily we still had our Toyota powered number 88 TCR car from last year in the workshop, and she didn’t take too much time to ready for the season. ...

Well, the past few months have been among the busiest of my life. There seems to have been hardly enough time to stop for a breath, let alone eat or sleep. Apologies for the lack for progress reports but I’ll try to make up for it now!.
As you would expect, the weeks leading up to the beginning of the season were intense. While ...

The last month or so have been very busy. We finished the solid model and design of the engine cases, and have been flat out making parts and getting things organised. Neil Gray, a friend and fellow BSL employee have spent a number of weekends so far machining the upper and lower crankcases. These started as solid blocks of 6061-T6 aluminium, and using Neils expertise in machining and programming we’ve quickly turned them into something resembling a V8 engine. Everything is CNC machined on MAZAK machines, including the sump, engine plates and covers.

After a few seasons in the F2 class and some good results, the team sat down and talked about our plans for the next season. The unanimous decision was that we had paid our dues and learnt a hell of a lot in the F2 class, and it was time to move up in engine power and race in the open grade. Obviously the costs and stakes go up with this move, so it was not a decision made lightly. But with anything, eventually you have to pull out the stops and see what you can make of things..
So the choice of engine had to be made, a vital factor in both the car performance and the budget required..
The main ...
